Taking a stand means one must take a firm position on a issue. In history, it means a person or group wha has taken a stand in supporting an issue. There are several historical events such as slavery that people fought for their rights. Slavery was a big problem in the United States. Abraham Lincoln took a stand in History to help abolish slavery. Lincoln stated that "Slavery was an unqualified evil to the negro, the white man, and the State". (Lincoln in 1850) Lincoln made speeches, amendments, and proclamation to prove his point.
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States. Lincoln always stood for being anti-slavery. Before his Presidency, he would attend groups, meetings, and relies which explained how slavery should be abolished. In the beginning on Lincoln's career, he claimed that he was "antislavery". During his career he issued the Emancipation Proclamation and furthermore, the 13th Amendment was passed.
