Process Paper: My National History Day topic is Abraham Lincoln taking a stand in History by abolishing slavery. Abraham Lincoln taking a stand by abolishing slavery is important because slavery was all round issue in America. Slaves were doing working hard labors, living in bad conditions, not having the same rights as non-slaves. Slaves were Native Americans and mostly non-slaves were white; this automatically shows rational ethics. Lincoln took the stand of abolishing slavery by sending out the Emancipation Proclamation and the Thirteenth Amendment. A lot of my research was found on reliable online sources and books. The online sources and books helped me get a further overview on Lincoln and his stance on abolishing slavery. I collected many quotes, letters, documents, speeches that helped me put together my project. Two of my helpful sources was Gilder Lehrman and Abraham Lincoln, Slavery, and, the Civil War Book of Selected Writing and Speeches. In my research, I found a lot of photos. I found political cartoons, photos, and paintings that helped me get a vivid image of the slavery and how Lincoln took his stance. I used Gilder Lehrman and and Our Documents for political cartoons and specific documents that were important to this project that would help me. There was just a here and there tics of finding my research and putting my project together. One tic was, the information I was finding was repetitive. I was always finding different answers for some specific topics. I was worried about the accuracy. Another issues was trying to place documents into my website, I found that tricky for me. My topic fits this year’s theme because slavery was a huge problem in America. Slavery allowed African Americans to do everyone’s dirty work. Lincoln took the stand of abolishing slavery. He wrote claims, letters, speeches to prove his point. My project shows a person taking a stand in History.
